Minutes of January 17, 2018 were approved.

Mayhew, 2 Strikers Way (30-48.2)    The Board approved a septic upgrade proposal for a 3-bedroom house presented by Reid Silva which requires no variances.

Barn Owl Trust, 225 State Road (33-122) Reid Silva presented a septic system construction proposal for a seven-bedroom system.  The Board approved the proposal, pending receipt of new plans and a bedroom count to be conducted at the existing dwelling.

Burgess, 99 Hammett Road (8-9)  The Board will review the question of septic system failure at this property at a future meeting.

EverSource use of Herbicides on MV:  The Board took note that the island towns are working with the group Protect Our Cape Cod Aquifer (POCCA) regarding plans of the Eversource electric company to use chemical vegetation control on rights of way on Martha’s Vineyard.  Input on this matter can be made in the form of a letter from Boards of Health to the Mass Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR).  The Board instructed Marina Lent to draft a letter indicating that the Chilmark BOH is not in favor of any chemical vegetation control measures being used on Martha’s Vineyard by Eversource.

Rabies Exemption for Ajax Becker was approved on the basis of a titre test showing effective protection.

Flu Clinic – MRC   The Martha’s Vineyard Medical Reserve Corps conducted a late-season flu clinic, including available pediatric and high-dose vaccine, in light of the particularly heavy flu season being experienced around the country this year.  A total of 51 people were vaccinated: 24 adult, 20 geriatric and 5 pediatric.  The MV Hospital hosted the clinic in its Community Room, and provided nursing staff for geriatric doses.  VNA-CC provided three nurses for adult and pediatric vaccinations.

Chilmark Crossroads Fire Station:  The Board discussed possible asbestos hazards within the Fire Station next to the Town Hall.  Matt Poole will draft a letter to Selectmen asking that the Board of Health be informed of incoming and outgoing correspondence on this matter in real time.

Invoices:  The Board approved the following invoices for payment:
  • Bailey’s stem thermometers and chlorine test strips  $48.50
  • MVRD Landfill-CBT $12
